The movie and band that hit me hardest this year

Coal Miner's Daughter and the band Love seemed to be popping up everywhere and at the weirdest times.

"Little Red Book" and "Alone Again Or"

Extraordinary Circumstances

Things have been overwhelmingly extraordinanry and fallen into place.

Some recent highlights:
-Was offered a ticket to the 2nd last GbV show in NYC ever
-Will see the Pixies tonight for the 3rd time on this tour.
-Was given an American Folkways recording of Ledbelly’s last sessions from 1958 (a record collectors wet dream)
-Finally read “A Confederacy of Dunces” and realized that I may own a 1st edition copy
-Saw “Life Aquatic” before it is out anywhere else (except LA, but that doesn’t count)
-Discovered Jandek. You should too.

Life Aquatic: It was OK

(click on pic to go to official web site)

Bill Murray owns this movie (again)
Angelica Houston is hot.
Luke Wilson whines.
Digital fishies are annoying.
Steve Zissou's theme music is awesome (somewhere between Flaming Lips and Looper).
But in the end, the plot and story just kind of fall apart. I liked it, but I can't say that it's as good as the last 2.

Another Week in NYC

Thanks Christine for taking me to the NY Times food thing . It was interesting. The pork belly in apple cider reduction that Tyler Florance made was amazing. He seemed like a nice guy. Rocco Dispirito , on the other hand, seemed like an arrogant prick.

A pic of Rocco and Tyler florence:

Saturday night was the fourth to last Guided by Voices show ever. At the bar beforehand, Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes walked up to our table and kind of freaked us out. Was he wasted? He couldn’t say anything, just kept approaching us with his mouth open and making some kind of noise. When we got to the show, Chloe Sevigny walked right in, stopped in front of me looked around, and then found her place upstairs. Walking home last night, Rick Rubin was walking a few blocks from my house, dressed up in his work out clothes. Funny.

So he won and now you want to move to Canada?

I don't think anyone visiting this blog is happy about Bush winning the election. Let's face it, 51% of this country is not like us, nor we like them. That's why we live where we do and they live there. I've heard a few people saying "I'm going to Canada." I'd rather stay here and continue with the good fight. That doesn't mean we'll always win, but we can't just give up.

for those insisting on moving to Canada, here's your chance.

NYC KICKS (my) ASS

Saw 7 apts. today. Most are crap. And expensive. And no one seems to be offering "secret" information. This is the 3rd star bucks I've been into today (internet access).

I saw these people today:
The guitar player of the Stroke's dog was taking a dump on the street in the east village.
The idiot dude from Wisconsin on the current Real World.
Tad, the food guy, from Queer Eye.

People here are fashionable and half the town has an iPod. I got the ipod covered.

Pictures of my flight, kissing Aaron and random subway/washington square park comming soon.

Apartment-Hunting Tips! from The Onion

Apartment-Hunting Tips!

Never underestimate the importance of hardwood floors and exposed brick. If you do not have the budget to afford an apartment that boasts these features, consider living in a coal chute.

I have no idea what is about to happen

from early indicators...it seems NYC will be a totally different place, and I have no way of knowing what I am about to embark upon. Funny thing happens when you have a dream for a long time and then it starts to happen.

BTW - GbV's Earthquake Glue is really a great record. Still not gotten into the new record. And am loosing my tickets to see them here on the final tour and the show in NYC is sold out. New Year's in Chicago anyone?
